About Quizlet Live

Quizlet Live is the classroom mode of Quizlet. It takes an existing flashcard set and turns it into a real-time team race: students are divided into groups, each group member sees a different set of possible answers, so they have to communicate to find who has the correct answer. This collaborative mechanic is well-suited to vocabulary review and requires students to say the terms aloud. Quizlet itself has a very large library of ELT-relevant vocabulary sets, which makes it easy to launch a session without building content from scratch.

Who is it for?

Good fit for

Vocabulary review where you want students talking to each other. Teams have to communicate to find who holds the right answer, and a Quizlet set is already available.

Less suitable for

No-device classrooms, grammar practice, or speaking-heavy activities beyond term recall.

Editorial assessment

Biggest strength

The collaborative "who has the answer?" mechanic generates natural communication. Large existing library of ELT vocabulary sets.

Biggest weakness

Requires student devices and a Quizlet subscription for full features. The mechanic only fits vocabulary pair formats.

Editorial note

The collaborative mechanic is one of the more naturally communicative designs in this category: students have to talk to each other to win. Worth using if you already work with Quizlet sets.
