About this directory

This is Lingadoo's guide to ELT classroom platforms and teaching tools. We built it because we kept getting asked "how does Lingadoo compare to Kahoot?" or "which tool is better for a shared screen?" — and the honest answer is always: it depends on your classroom. So we built a resource that actually explains the differences.

What this is

A structured directory and comparison guide covering 15 ELT classroom platforms. Each entry describes what a tool is actually like to use, who it suits, where it falls short, and how it compares to alternatives. Comparisons are framed by classroom context (shared screen vs student devices, teacher-led vs student-paced, low-prep vs high-prep) rather than by an overall ranking.

The goal is to help ELT teachers make a useful decision quickly, without having to try every platform themselves.

Our position

This directory is produced by Lingadoo. Lingadoo is one of the tools reviewed here. We are not neutral observers. We have a product in this space and a clear interest in teachers finding it useful.

That said, we have tried to make this resource genuinely worth reading regardless of whether a teacher ends up using Lingadoo or something else. A teacher who finds a better tool for their classroom through this guide is a better outcome than a teacher who picks Lingadoo based on a misleading comparison.

Lingadoo's own entry notes its weaknesses directly: limited custom content flexibility, less suitable for contexts that require student devices, and not designed for teachers who want to build their own materials.

What this is not

  • It is not a rankings site. No tool is declared the "best overall."
  • It is not a paid review platform. No tool has paid for inclusion, placement, or coverage.
  • It is not an affiliate site. No commissions are earned from any clicks or sign-ups.
  • It is not a comprehensive survey of all edtech. It focuses on classroom platforms relevant to ELT teaching.

Editorial approach

Tool entries are based on direct use of the platforms, documentation review, and editorial judgment applied to ELT classroom contexts. We do not run formal classroom trials or collect aggregated teacher survey data. Entries reflect genuine assessment, not marketing copy.

All weaknesses are noted. Every tool in this directory has real limitations, and we try to describe those specifically rather than softening them. This applies to Lingadoo as much as to any other tool listed.

The criteria used to evaluate and categorise tools are explained in full on the methodology page.

Accuracy and updates

Platforms change: pricing shifts, features are added or removed, products pivot. Each entry carries a last-reviewed date. We aim to review entries at least once per year and update significant changes as we become aware of them.

If you notice something that is out of date or incorrect, you can reach us through the Lingadoo contact page.

Suggesting a tool

If you think a classroom platform relevant to ELT teaching is missing from the directory, we are open to hearing about it. Suggestions do not guarantee inclusion. We review tools editorially and only add entries we can assess accurately.
