About Wordwall

Wordwall lets teachers enter their own content — typically word/definition pairs or questions — and then generate multiple activity types from the same set: matching, anagram, quiz, balloon pop, crossword, and more. The same content set can be switched between activity types instantly. Activities can be projected on a shared screen with the class calling out answers, or assigned to students for individual practice. It is one of the most flexible content-creation tools for ELT teachers, particularly for vocabulary and form-focused activities.

Who is it for?

Good fit for

Teachers who already prepare their own materials and want to turn a vocabulary list or grammar set into multiple interactive formats without rebuilding the content each time.

Less suitable for

Teachers looking for ready-made ELT content. Wordwall requires teacher effort to create useful activities.

Editorial assessment

Biggest strength

One content set, many game types. Flexible across shared screen and individual device use.

Biggest weakness

Requires meaningful preparation time. The free plan limits how many activities you can save.

Editorial note

One of the better tools for teachers who invest in building their own materials. The activity variety is genuine and the output quality is high, but it is as useful as the content you put into it.
